Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark

Welcome to the Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark. Where today guests from many countries enjoy winter sports, the crowds cheer on the world's best ski jumpers every year during the Four Hills Tournament or seek relaxation in untouched nature, people were once busy looking for mineral resources deep in the mountains. Copper mining began as early as the Bronze Age, around 2.000 to 800 years BC. Traces of the prehistoric miners can still be seen today.

The Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark offers a variety of geology, nature, culture, recreation, culinary delights and wonderful experiences. Immerse yourself in the fascinating "world of colorful ores" in a unique Geopark in the heart of the Alps, in Salzburg's Pongau region. It extends over the four municipalities of Hüttau, Bischofshofen, Mühlbach am Hochkönig and St. Veit im Pongau and covers around 211 km².
