The cause of this disease is a deficiency of Vitamin C, resulting from insufficient consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables or raw meat and fish. The treatment of this disease is relatively simple with an adequate intake of vitamin-rich food. The enrichment of miners‘ diets contributed significantly to increased production in mining.
