Buwi Bradl House

Here arose from 1911 the factory settlement of the miners in Mühlbach. The main shareholder, Arthur Krupp from Berndorf, was a very social industrialist who built residential houses, a swimming pool, and bathhouses for the population. Sepp "Buwi“ Bradl grew up in this house.

In 1920, Buwi‘s parents moved to this house with two-year-old Buwi and his sister Josefa, as the father found work in mining here. The family found their livelihood in a two-room apartment. In April 1930, Josef Bradl, the father, had an accident during a mountain tour in the Schrammbachscharte and died in the arms of his 12-year-old son Buwi.

In 1936, at the age of 18, Sepp "Buwi“ Bradl became the first person to surpass the one hundred meter mark in Planica, Slovenia. Three years later, he was crowned the first Austrian world champion in ski jumping in Zakopane, Poland.
He achieved many victories and records and served as the national coach for 17 years after his active career. Sepp Bradl passed away in March 1982 at the age of only 64. The museum in Mühlbach dedicates a permanent exhibition to Buwi Bradl.
