Geopark
The Ore of the Alps Association is the supporting association pf the Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark in Salzburg, which offers insights into the rich history of mining since the Bronze Age. Visitors can visit the visitor centre, explore show mines or hike along the 60 km long ore trail.
Visitor centre
The visitor centre of the Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the ski jump area of Bischofshofen next to the famous Paul Ausserleitner ski jump. Built as part of a BayAut Interreg project, it offers a joint exhibition by the Geopark towns of Hüttau, Bischofshofen, Mühlbach am Hochkönig and St. Veit im Pongau on prehistoric and historic ore mining. Visitors can experience a presentation of all the Geopark attractions such as geosites, show mines and museums.
UNESCO Global Geopark
The Global Geopark Network comprises 213 geoparks in 48 countries, which have been officially recognised as UNESCO Global Geoparks since 2015. In Austria, three geoparks are part of this network: the Eisenwurzen region in Styria, the cross-border Karawanken region in Carinthia/Slovenia and the Geopark Erz der Alpen in Salzburg.
