Saturday, 10 October.

• 9.15 am Welcome and introduction to the topic
• 9.30 am Clemens Braun (Vienna): “Unfit as a school of life”. Thomas Bernhard’s institutions
• 10.15 am Irene Fuß (Salzburg): “Home on the Border”. Ingeborg Bachmann’s youth in an Austrian town
• 11.30 am Silvana Cimenti (Graz); “nipped in the bud right from the very start”: strategies of escape in Thomas Bernhard’s *Die Ursache. Eine Andeutung* and Barbara Frischmuth’s *Die Klosterschule*

Lunch break

• 3.00 pm Thomas Bernhard, *Der Keller*: Workshop – reading by Christoph Miere and open discussion with the audience

Followed by a relaxed get-together over coffee and cake
