Open Day at the Excavation Site – Arthurhaus in Mühlbach am Hochkönig

19 September at 10.00 - 14:00

On Saturday 19 September 2026 offers the German Mining Museum, Bochum and the Ruhr University Bochum Once again, it offers anyone interested a unique insight into the region’s „mining archaeology“ and the „Mitterberg“ in particular. Visitors can explore the archaeological site „“Wilder See„ on the “Mitterberg’. The free guided tours start at 10.00 am and provide an insight into the latest research findings.

Directions: Walkers can reach the site via the Hochkeil or along the forest track from the Arthurhaus (walking time approx. 30–35 minutes, depending on fitness level). The best way to get to our excavation site is via the footpath starting from the Arthurhaus. On 19 September, signposts will also be placed along the route to help with navigation.

From the Arthurhaus, walk along the wide, gravelly “Murmeltierweg”, initially following the footpath towards Stegalm. Then stay on path no. 18. After 20–30 minutes, you’ll come to the first turn-off on the right, leading up the slope. Follow this path uphill and you’ll reach the excavation site shortly afterwards.

If in doubt, follow the signposts that have been put up specifically for this purpose from the Arthurhaus onwards.
